Zamalek Club was crowned the African Super Cup title after beating Al Ahly Club with a penalty shootout (4-3) in a match that ended in a draw (1-1)
The African Super played for the third consecutive time in September and was crowned the third consecutive champion of the Confederation Cup. Palestinian Wasam Abu Ali, the holder of number 9, scored with his right foot in the 44th minute from a penalty, and became the first Asian player and the second non-African player after Brazilian Ricardo DOS SANTOS in the 2017 final with Mamelodi Sundowns to score a goal in the final
Then the result was fair, Nasser Mansi, the holder of number 9 with his right foot in the 77th minute in the same left goal of the field and 36 seconds after he came on as a substitute
Yesterday's meeting resolved several conclusions bearing the number 5:
* For the fifth time (Egypt's third) the super final is played between two teams from the same country, of course the final of the second edition played in January 1994 (30 years ago), Johannesburg was the first final between Zamalek and Al-Ahly
* For the fifth time, the final was played on Friday outside the continent and it was the Super Mars 2019 in Doha, the first to be played on Friday outside Africa, between Raja Al-Taraji
* For the fifth time the African Super Final combines coaches from Europe, note that the February 1997 final in Cairo is the first to have a European meeting for coaches: the German Diethelm FERNER with the Zamalek club and his citizen Michael KR للGER with the Contractors club
* The final referee is the Libyan Motaz Al-Shalmani, who previously led 5 matches for the Egyptian club in the continental cups, the first was the match between the Egyptian club and TP Mazembe in February 2022 for the role of the Confederation Cup groups. Yesterday's match was the third for Al-Hly and the second for Zamalek in the first continental match between two teams from the same country
This is the tenth time that an Arab referee has led the Super Final and Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani, Moataz's father, was 22 years ago in March 2002 in Cairo between Al-Ahly FC and Kaizer Chiefs, the third Arab referee to lead the African Super after the Egyptians Ahmed Al Shinawi and Jamal Al Gandour. Note that yesterday's final marked the presence of Tunisian Khalil Al-Hassani as assistant referee for the fifth time in an African match involving Al-Ahly or Zamalek
* Rami Rabia participated in the Super Final for the fifth time as the third player to reach this number in the history of the final after his compatriots Hossam Ashour (6) and Wael Juma (5)
* 5 sides recorded their presence in the final with the Zamalek jersey as the highest number for a champion team after the 2017 final
* Ahmed Awad is the fifth goalkeeper of Zamalek Club to reach the African Super by actually participating in the final
* Don Omar Jaber is named as the five oldest captains of Zamalek Club who won the Super Cup at the age of 32 and 241 days, surpassing the number of his club's son Ismail Youssef after 27 years. * Abdullah Al-Saeed became the fifth player to be crowned in the Super Cup with two clubs in real participation in the final
Where he played the fourth super final and his first with Zamalek Club, and lifted the title for the third time (after being crowned with Al-Ahly), and at the age of 39 years and 76 days, he surpassed the number of his citizen Wael Juma, which was his record ten years ago, as the oldest player to participate in the super final and be crowned in the cup
Know that Benini Muri Ola OGUNBIYI is the first player to lift the cup with two teams: Enyimba in the final and Coastal Star
