Statistics on Champions’ League group stage round 1 (September 17)

*Only the day of 21 October 2014 had a higher goals per game ratio (40 goals in 8 games, 5 per game) in the Champions League history (with at least 3 games played) than the starting day of new UCL season (4.7 per game, 28 goals in 6 games). 

Real Madrid vs Stuttgart 3-1

*Stuttgart appeared in their first UCL game in 14 years 184 days: the longest gap between consecutive UCL matches by a German side in the history of the competition. 

*Kylian Mbappé's goal at 45 minutes 21 seconds is the fastest scored by a Real Madrid player in the Champions League, since the kick-off of the second half, equaling Karim Benzema's goal (also at 45' 21") against Bayern on 1 May 2018.

*At the age of 39 years 8 days, Luka Modrić is the third oldest player to assist a goal in Champions League history, after Ryan Giggs (39 years 363 days) and Amedeo Carboni (39 years 176 days). 

*Módric became the first player aged 39+ to play in a European Cup/Champions League match for Real Madrid.

*At 18 years 58 days, Endrick has become the youngest player to score for Real Madrid in any official international competition, surpassing Raúl's previous record against Ferencváros in Champions League in 1995 (18 years 113 days; it was even a hat-trick).

Juan Planelles, at 18 years 247 days in 1969,
Rodrygo, at 18 years 301 days in 2019.

*Endrick is also the 2nd youngest non-European player to score on his debut in Champions League, only behind the Ghanaian Peter Ofori-Quaye who did so in 1997 at the age of 17 years 194 days.

Bayern München vs Dinamo Zagreb 9-2

*Bayern have 21 consecutive victories in its first game of the season in the Champions League. Their scoring balance in these last 21 debuts in the competition is 60 goals for and 7 against.
The last edition of the UCL in which Bayern did not start with a victory was the 2002-03 season (they lost 2-3 at home against Deportivo).

*Bayern became the first team to score 9+ goals in a Champions League game in the UCL era.

*Thomas Müller has appeared in 152 Champions League matches for Bayern, breaking Xavi’s record for the most UCL matches with one club (151 for Barcelona). 

*Michael Olise (Bayern) became the first French player to score a brace on his Champions League debut since Thierry Henry in 1997. 

*With 3 penalties awarded in this game, Bayern became the first team in the history of the competition with 60 penalties in favor, ahead of Real Madrid (58). 

Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven 3-1

*Juventus have fielded their youngest ever (average age 25 years 149 days) starting XI in a Champions League game. 

*At 19 years 136 days, Kenan Yildiz has become the youngest player to score for Juventus in Champions League, overtaking Alessandro Del Piero (20 years 308 days against Borussia Dortmund on 13 September 1995). 

*At the same time, Kenan Yildiz became the youngest ever Turkish scorer in the competition, surpassing Cengiz Ünder (20 years 222 days). 

*Finally, Kenan Yıldız became the youngest player to score the first goal of a season in the history of Champions League, ahead of: 
Daniel Amokachi (19 years 331 days) who scored the first goal of the 1992-93 season,
Sergio Agüero (20 years 106 days) who scored the first goal of the 2008-09 season.

*PSV coach Peter Bosz has the 2nd lowest points average (0.86) on the bench in Champions League among coaches at 20 matches minimum, behind only Brendan Rodgers (0.63).

Milan vs Liverpool 1-3

*Liverpool are the only away team to play multiple Champions League games at the San Siro and win every single one, including 1-0 vs Inter (2008), 2-1 vs Milan (2021) and 2-0 vs Inter (2022).

*Milan have faced 11 shots on target, equalling their such record in a Champions League match (also 11 vs Manchester United in 2007 and vs Ajax in 2010) since the data has been available (2003-04). 

*Álvaro Morata who assisted for the Milan’s goal has been involved in at least one goal in Champions League with 5 different teams (Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Atlético Madrid and Milan), with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic doing so for more different teams in the competition (6).

Young Boys vs Aston Villa 0-3

*Aston Villa are the 4th English team to win on their Champions League debut (since 1992) after Manchester United in 1994, Newcastle in 1997 and Leicester in 2016. 

*Aston Villa became the 3rd team to win by 3 goals on their away debut in Champions League, after Ferencvaros (against Grasshoppers Zurich in 1995) and Leicester (against Club Brugge in 2016).

*Youri Tielemans has scored the 200th goal by Belgian players in the history of Champions League. Belgium is the 11th country to reach this figure, after Brazil, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, England, Argentina, Portugal and Norway (in chronological order).

*Tielemans scored the first goal in Aston Villa's long-awaited return to the European Cup/UCL. Their previous goal in the competition was scored by Peter White against Juventus on 16 March 1983).

Sporting vs Lille 2-0

*Geovany Quenda (17 years 140 days) made his debut as a starter in the Champions League with Sporting and became the youngest starter  in history of competition among Portuguese players.

*Ayyoub Bouaddi became at 16 years 351 days the 3rd youngest Frenchman to play in a Champions League match behind Rayan Cherki (16 years 102 days) and Warren Zaire-Emery (16 years 231 days).

*Viktor Gyökeres has scored again for Sporting; he netted in every game for club and country (Sweden) this season so far (8 games, 12 goals).
