IFFHS ranking for players with most consecutive caps

As we have already noted, Antoine Griezmann failed to set a new world record for the number of matches played for the national team in a row. He stopped at 84 matches, while the record of Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta (86) stood.
But Griezmann can take solace in the fact that at least he now holds the record for outfield players. He took it from the Swiss midfielder Heinz Hermann, who appeared for the national team in 72 consecutive matches during the decade of 1980s.
Here we publish, for the first time, the ranking of the longest individual series in this category.
Billy Wright, Franz Beckenbauer and Berti Vogts are 3 players who ended their national team careers with a long unbroken streak.
Gerhard Hanappi is the only player on the list who, on the contrary, started his career with such a super series (55 games).
Kasper Schmeichel (PICTURE) holds the longest ongoing streak. Yesterday he played for Denmark in a friendly against Switzerland for the 42nd time without missing out.
