UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – QUARTER FINALS
19 – 20 March 2024
- The favourites won all the first game of the quarter finals outside, so that we can already predict the probably semi finals Chelsea-Barcelona and Lyon-Paris SG !
- German Sjoeke Nusken is the new goalscorer of Chelsea ! After her two goals against Arsenal in the Women’s Super League, she scored also a brace in Amsterdam before a record crowd of 35 911 spectators in the Johan Cruyff Arena !
- After 641 days of absence due to ACL injuries, Catarina Macario is back ! Already efficient in England (one goal in WSL debut and one goal in FA Cup debut), she entered in the 74th minute in Amsterdam, before giving the assist, nine minutes later, for the third goal of her new club Chelsea in her Champions League debut with Chelsea !
- Eugénie Le Sommer played her 400th game for Olympique Lyon in Lisbon. Only Wendie Renard, the legendary captain (injured actually) has more games (469). Le Sommer scored 302 goals in her 400 matches with Lyon.
- Sara Dabritz scored already her 8th goal in the new year 2024 ! The German midfielder is the most efficient player of Lyon with Ada Hegerberg, also currently injured, (11 goals in 2024).
- Other come back : Delphine Cascarino, Olympique Lyon’s famous winger, is back after her long ACL injury of 9 months. She scored the most important goal of Lyon in Lisbon, bringing her club on the way of success.
- Chelsea qualified 5 consecutive times in the quarter finals of the competition. But with only a final lost in 2021 as result.
- It was the first time since 2007 that the Netherlands were represented by a club, Ajax, in the quarter final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
- Benfica made History in the competition. For the first time, Portugal was represented in the Quarter final ! Benfica, unbeaten in the League since 15 games, has already realized a draw (4-4) against Barcelona before making a great game against Lyon (1-2).
- Melchie Dumornay became the first Player in the History of her country Haïti to play a quarter final of UEFA Champions League and also to give an assist for the second goal of Olympique Lyon.
- Paris SG has already joined the final of the Champions League two times in 2015 and 2017 with two defeats as results. If they qualify, they can again meet in semi final … the French rival Olympique Lyon !
- Hacken is the 9th club of Sweden to reach the quarter finals of the competition. The league in sweden begins only on April 12, so the team was not in the optimal preparation .
- Eva Gaetino, the new US player of Paris SG, played her first UEFA Champions League game in Hacken and scored her first goal.
- Rasul Kafaji Rosa, 20 years old, is the Goalscorer of Hacken in the Champions League, scoring already her 4th goal in the competition this year !
- Tabitha Chawinga has already scored 11 goals in 2024 and the 20th goal since she signed in Paris ! The Malawian player is really the best striker of Paris SG, where Marie Antoinette Katoto was absent due to an injury.
- Caroline Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo scored the two goals of Barcelona in Brann, adding their goal total for the year 2024 to 15 goals each !
- Signe Gaupset, Brann’s juwel (18 years old), realized again a great game face to Barcelona, showing that she has a bright future.
