Yesterday, the Ivory Coast team qualified for the quarter-finals after eliminating the Senegal team, the defending champion of the last edition, on penalties.
During the third meeting between the two teams in the history of the final phase, and the first which ended in a draw (1-1), after two victories for the Ivory Coast team against his Senegalese counterpart during the 1965 edition in Tunisia and the 1986 edition in Egypt, with the same score (1-0).
Yesterday's match was the seventh in the history of the competition between the host country team and the defending champions, and the second to end in a draw, following the 1986 final in Egypt.
This is the 28th draw in 103 matches played by the Ivory Coast team at the CAN.
And the 18th draw in 71 matches played by the Senegalese team in the competition.
The Ivory Coast team qualified for the quarter-finals for the 11th time, a CAN record equaled, preceded by the teams of Ghana, Tunisia and Nigeria.
On the other hand, the Senegalese team failed to reach the quarter-finals for the fourth time since 1992.
Habibou DIALLO scored in the fourth minute with his left foot in the left camp, scoring his sixth goal for his country.
The Ivory Coast team has conceded 7 goals in the current edition, making it the second highest number of goals conceded by the host country team in the history of the competition, just as the Cameroon team during the previous edition and after the Burkina Faso team (9 goals) during the 1998 edition.
Franck Yannick KESSIE then equalized with his right foot in the 86th minute from the penalty spot, bringing his score to 8 goals in the jersey of his country's team.
Marking the occasion the 100th goal of the current edition, total reached for the third consecutive edition after:

The defending champion team, which participated in the following edition, failed to reach the quarter-finals for the sixth and fourth consecutive time after:
Algeria in 1992, Zambia in 2013, Ivory Coast in 2017, Cameroon in 2019 and Algeria in 2022.
