-       3 games, 3 wins : Sweden, Olympic finalist 2016 and 2020, is qualified for the 8th time in 9 World Cups for the ko round.

-       With their first place in the group, Sweden will play USA in 1/8 final ! Already a World Cup highlight !

-       Caroline Seger became the all time Sweden’s (men and women) recordwomen with 20 appearances at World Cup.

FACTS AND STATS

 

-       South Africa will face 2019 finalists Netherlands in their first EVER knockout stage round at a World Cup !

-       It was also their first win in World Cup History at their second paticipation .

-       The two goals of Arianne Caruso were not enough for Italy to join the KO stage for the third time in History .

-       It was captain Thembi Kgatlana (now 3 goals in the World Cup History) who broke Italian hearts in the 92’ minute and scored the winning and historical goal.

-       After Nigeria, South Africa is already the second African team to join the knockout stage !

-       South African coach Desiree Ellis, in place since 2016, has now qualified two times her team for World Cup (2019, 2023) ,won the FIRST EVER African Nations Cup 2022 and joined the World’s Top 16 in the World Cup 2023 !
