IFFHS CONTINENTAL NEWS - UEFA MEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

Statistics on Champions’ League final (Man City vs Inter 1-0)

*Manchester City is the 2nd English team to win the treble of European Cup/Champions League, national league and national cup, after Manchester United in the 1998-99 season.

*Manchester is only the 2nd city with 2 different European Cup/Champions League winners; the first is Milan.

*Manchester City became the 10th team to win the European Cup/Champions League without losing a single match.
Previously, Milan, Ajax, Liverpool, Manchester United managed to do this twice and Bayern, Barcelona, Inter, Marseille, Red Star once each.

*Manchester City is the 6th English team to win the European Cup/Champions League, after Manchester United, Liverpool, Nottingham, Aston Villa and Chelsea.
Any other nation has at least twice fewer winning teams (Germany, Italy and Netherlands 3 each).

*Italy is the first country to lose three European finals in the same season (Roma in Europa League, Fiorentina in Conference League, Inter in Champions League).

*The last Champions League final in which two teams met without previous official matches between them was also held in Istanbul and also with an Italian team against an English rival (2005, Liverpool vs Milan).

*Simone Inzaghi is the 6th different Italian coach to take charge of a team in a Champions League final, after Ancelotti, Capello, Lippi, Di Matteo and Allegri.
Germany is the only other nation with as many coaches in European Cup/Champions League finals.

*Edin Dzeko is the 9th outfield player aged 37+ who started in European Cup/Champions League final.
His predecessors are Alfredo di Stefano, Ferenc Puskás, Toninho Cerezo, Pietro Vierchowod, Lothar Matthäus, Alessandro Costacurta, Paolo Maldini, Ryan Giggs.

*Kevin de Bruyne is the second player to be injured in two Champions League finals (2021 and 2023).
The first was Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid, 2016 and 2018).

*Rodri is the third Spanish player to score for a non-Spanish club in a European Cup final, after Xabi Alonso (with Liverpool in 2005) and Alvaro Morata (with Juventus in 2015).

*Erling Haaland is the 6th Norwegian player to win the Champions League, after Steinar Pedersen (with Borussia Dortmund in 1997), Henning Berg, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ronny Johnsen (all with Manchester United in 1999) and Jon Arne Riise (with Liverpool in 2005).

*Manchester City's victory ended Croatia's winning streak in Champions League since 2013, as there are no Croatian players in the City's roster.
If Inter won, the streak would have been extended, as midfielder Marcelo Brozovic plays for “Nerazzurri”.
During this streak, Mario Mandzukic won UCL with Bayern in 2013, Luka Modric with Real Madrid in 2014, Ivan Rakitic with Barcelona in 2015, Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic with Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018, Dejan Lovren with Liverpool in 2019, Ivan Perisic with Bayern in 2020, Mateo Kovacic with Chelsea in 2021 and Modric again with Real Madrid in 2022.
At the same time, thanks to the Brozovic, the series of representation of Croatian players in the Champions League finals continues. It began in 2012 thanks to Ivica Olic, then playing for Bayern.

*It was the first UCL final without French players since 2010 (Inter vs Bayern).
