Morocco, Ivory Coast qualify as shock results mark AFCON 2023 Day 3 qualifiers.

Guinea Bissau staged a tour de force at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to edge hosts, Nigeria 1-0 in what was the main shocker of day 3 of the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Ivory Coast 2023. In the same group, Sao Tome & Principe recovered from a 0-10 convulsive treatment at the hands of Nigeria to play to a 2-2 draw away to Sierra Leone. Another intriguing result was registered at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde where lowly rated Namibia were forced to a 1-1 draw by group C leaders and hosts, Cameroon. Although the Cameroon team were stripped of 4 key players in Vincent Aboubakar(benched by a World Cup Qatar 2022 red card) and injured players Choupo Moting, Toko Ekambi and Collins Fai, many did not find it convincing enough to defend the slip up against Namibia. Elsewhere, Central Africa Republic travelled to shock Madagascar 3-0 as Ghana edged visiting Angola1-0 in another group E game. Yet, Tanzania travelled to edge Uganda 1-0 at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia. And South Sudan travelled to defeat Congo 2-1 at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat Stadium, Brazzaville.

Other results registered on day 3 played this weekend include: Cape Verde 0 0 Eswatini; Burkina Faso 1 0 Togo; Egypt 2 0 Malawi; Guinea 2 0 Ethiopia; Algeria 2 1 Niger; Mali 2 0 Gambia; Zambia 3 1 Lesotho; Ivory Coast 3 1 Comoros; Gabon 1 0 Sudan; DR Congo 3 1 Mauritania; Equatorial Guinea 2 0 Botswana; Tunisia 3 0 Libya; South Africa 2 2 Liberia; Senegal 5 1 Mozambique; Benin 1 1 Rwanda.
