Haaland and Manchester City feats on UCL match-day of 14 March

*Manchester City equaled their biggest ever Champions League win, alongside a 7-0 vs Schalke on 12 March 2019.

*Manchester City also equaled the UCL overall record on biggest win in playoff stage. It was 4th playoff win with same score 7-0 (see table below).
Curiously, in last 3 cases out of these 4, Pep Guardiola was the winning coach (1 with Bayern, 2 with Manchester City).
At each of 4 cases, German clubs were presenting, twice as a winner, twice as a loser.

*Erling Haaland is the first player to score 5 goals for an English team in European competition since Kevin Hector for Derby Country, against Finn Harps in 1976.

*Haaland has scored his 5th hat-tricks for Manchester City in all competitions this season; no one of other players in Europe's big five leagues has scored more than 2 hat-tricks.
In the English Premier League, last player with so many hat-tricks in a season was Harry Kane (also 5 for Tottenham in 2016-17).

*Haaland burst onto the top of Chanpions League scorers’ chart of this season with 9 goals, surpassing Mohammed Salah (8, Liverpool), Kylian  Mbappé (7, PSG), João Mário (6, Benfica), Vinícius Júnior (6, Real Madrid).

*Haaland became the youngest player (22 years 236 days) to reach 30 goals in Champions League.

*After yesterday’s game, Haaland has scored in UCL 33 goals in 25 games. All other players except  Ruud Van Nistelrooy (38), took more than doubled amount of games to reach this tally: Messi 52, Lewandowski 53, Mbappé 53, Benzema 54, Cavani 54, Filippo Inzaghi 55, Neymar 55 etc.

*Two first of his 5 goals Haaland scored with a gap of just 1 minute 18 seconds. This is 3rd quickest brace in UCL history. Above him in this ranking, only Gareth Bale (1 minute 16 seconds, for Tottenham in 2010) and Shinji Kagawa (1 minute 17 seconds for Borussia Dortmund in 2016).

*At the same time, this Haaland’s brace became the quickest ever in UCL playoff stages, surpassing Lewandowski (1 minute 21 seconds, Bayern, vs Salzburg in 2022) and Cristiano Ronaldo (1 minute 27 seconds, Real Madrid, vs Wolfsburg in 2016).

*Haaland became the third player to score a hat-trick in the first half of a Champions League knockout match, after Lionel Messi in 2010 and Robert Lewandowski in 2022.

*Haaland became the second player to score a perfect hat-trick (goals by head, right foot and left foot) in the first half of a Champions League match, after Mike Newell (Blackburn Rovers) in 1995.

*It is the first penta-trick of Haaland’s senior career. His most prolific games before were two with 4 goals, Molde vs Brann (4-0) in Norwegian league on 1 July 2018 and Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha (5-2) in Bundesliga on 21 November 2020.
