IFFHS STATISTICS - WORLD CUP 2022 DAY 21

PictureFor Antoine Griezmann this game was the 18th in a row for France at the World Cup: the longest streak in the history of the French national team.

The statistics on 2022 World Cup day 21 (14 December)

*France are the 1st title holders to reach the World Cup final since Brazil in 1998 and 5th in the history of tournament at all (also Italy in 1938, Brazil in 1962 and Argentina in 1990).

*France have reached the World Cup final 4 times in the last 7 editions (1998, 2006, 2018 and 2022), twice more than any other team over the period.

*France won all their World Cup matches after leading at half-time except one: 1-1 against South Korea in the 2006 group stage (France led 1-0 at half-time).

*Hugo Lloris (France) made his 19th appearance at the World Cup, equalling Manuel Neuer as the goalkeeper with the most games in the history of the competition.

*Theo Hernández opener vs Morocco at 4 minutes 39 seconds became France's earliest goal in the World Cup since 2 June 1978 (Bernard Lacombe, at 31 seconds against Italy).

*Theo Hernández goal became the earliest scored by any side in a World Cup semifinal since 1958, when Vavá scored within 2 minutes for Brazil against France.

*Romain Saïss (Morocco) was substituted due to injury after 21 minutes. A captain hasn't been replaced so early in a World Cup match since Uruguay's Pedro Rocha was replaced in the 13th minute against Israel on 2 June 1970.

*Randal Kolo Muani (France) has scored the third-quickest goal for a substitute in World Cup history (44 seconds after coming on), only behind the Uruguayan Richard Morales in 2002 (16 seconds) and the Dane Ebbe Sand in 1998 (26 seconds).

*Randal Kolo Muani's goal was the 1st goal scored by a player wearing shirt number 12 at this World Cup. All shirt numbers (1-26) have now netted at the tournament (including own goals).

*Selim Amallah (Morocco) became the second substitute to be substituted himself in a World Cup semi-final. The first was Frenchman Patrick Battiston against Germany in 1982.

*For France coach Didier Deschamps, this is the 2nd consecutive World Cup final. Previously, only three coaches have achieved this: Vittorio Pozzo (Italy, 1934-1938), Carlos Bilardo (Argentina, 1986-1990) and Franz Beckenbauer (Germany, 1986-1990).
Two coaches more have reached two World Cup finals with a gap: Helmut Schön  (Germany, 1966 and 1974), Mario Zagallo (Brazil, 1970 and 1998).
