Morocco, Senegal qualify for WAFCON ¼ finals

It was slow in coming but Senegal got the qualification after their 1/0 defeat of Burkina Faso. Substitute Korka Fall had the arduous task of making a dream come true when she stepped forward to challenge for the penalty on 84 minutes. She got it through to allow her side qualify for the 2022 WAFCON quarterfinals. Rasmatou Sawadogo of Senegal took the credit for a formidable performance to emerge Woman-of-the-Match. The performance of Senegal raised expectations for celebrations after the AFCON trophy just finished nationwide tour following the Gaindé success story in Cameroon during the 2021 AFCON final game last February 6.

Rosella Annie Ayane scored the important first goal for Morocco

In the second game, Rosella Ayane was anxious as the referee checked with VAR to validate the penalty on 12 minutes. She transformed the kick to put Morocco 1/0 up. Hard fighting Uganda had a story to tell when Fauzia Najjemba shot straight into the net to establish a parity. But then the expectations were rife for a better turn of events for Morocco. Ghizlane Chebbak made it concrete heading home for the 2-1 lead that registered outright jubilations from the terraces. And the last act of the drama that put Uganda out but Morocco in was on 82 minutes when Sumaya Komuntale played foul to earn red and penalty for Morocco. Ghizlane Chebbak shot from the spot and scored to put full time scores at 3/1. Morocco thus qualify for the quarterfinals even before their last group game. Zineb Redouani for Morocco was crowned Woman-of-the-Match.

Group B matches, Zambia vs Tunisia and Togo vs Cameroon, respectively are on schedule this Wednesday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
