The World’s Best National Top Division Scorer 2021 at May 31: Maclaren does not give up leadership
Australian Jamie Maclaren holds the lead in the national goalscorers’ ranking for the second month in a row. He scored 5 goals in the A-League in May, just enough to keep away from Robert Lewandowski, who scored the same amount in the Bundesliga. Now Maclaren has 25 goals and Lewandowski 24.
Leo Messi is one goal behind the Pole. 23 goals make also the current tally of Zachary Hadji, who made a spurt in May with 9 goals in the Luxembourg championship.
Back to Maclaren, this is 4th consecutive full season for him in his native league with 20+ goals (2015/16, 2016/17, 2019/20, 2020/21). In the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, he tried at stronger leagues (2nd German Bundesliga, Scottish Premier League), where he was significantly less successful.
