THE WORLD’S BEST REFEREE 1990 : JOSE ROBERTO RAMIZ WRIGHT (BRAZIL)
Born in Rio de Janeiro on 7 September 1944, José Roberto Ramiz Wright began his referee career with less than 30 and so he has directed 267 matches of the Serie A in Brazil. He was international referee in 1978 and was very active at the Under 20 World Cup in 1979, he whistled the final. He was nominated to referee four times the Copa Libertadores 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991; the final of Copa América 1991 and the Intercontinental Cup final 1990.
1990 was his great year with the WORLD CUP in Italy. He was designated to whistle four matches , a fantastic England – Germany in semi-final. His performance in 1990 was crowned by the winning of the IFFHS ranking THE WORLD’S BEST REFEREE 1990 !
José Roberto Ramiz Wright was one of the creator of the rules for Beach Soccer and in 2010, he was ranked 23th in the IFFHS Referee World Ranking of the last 25 years.
