PRESENTATION

Lena Goessling, born 8 March 1986 in Bielefeld, is one of the best German Midfielders in the History. She plays currently for VFL Wolfsburg where she is part of one of the five best clubs in the World !

She began her career in Löhne-Obernbeck, her local football club before joining FC Gütersloh in 2003. She played there 35 matches (7 goals) and made her debut in the German Youth National Team , winning the FIFA U19 Women’s World Championship 2004, scoring two goals in the group games and being runner-up of the UEFA U19 Women’s Championship the same year ! Between 2003 and 2005, she played 29 matches with Germany’s U19 National Team (9 goals) , participating again at the 2006 FIFA U20 Women’s World Championship. In 2006, at 20, she joined the Top Division Club of SC 07 Bad Neuenahr. She played 98 matches in 5 seasons there (19 goals) and continued her progression in the German’s National Teams. 4 matches with U20 National Team in 2006, 4 matches with the U23 National Team in 2007 and finally her debut in February 2008, at 22, in the German National Team against China.

She was part of the German National Team during 11 years between 2008 and 2019, playing 106 international games with 10 goals scored. She won the Gold Medal at the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and the UEFA Women’s Championship 2013 in Sweden, participated also at 3 FIFA World Cups 2011 in Germany, 2015 in Canada and 2019 in France. Also winner of two Algarve Cups (2012, 2014) with Germany, she announced her international retirement after the last World Cup in France.

In 2011, she was transferred to VFL Wolfsburg and began then a fantastic success story ! Between 2011 and 2019, she played 135 games (24 goals) and won 2 UEFA Women’s Champion League (2012/13, 2013/14), 5 Bundesliga Champion titles (2012/13, 2013/14, 2016/17, 20178/18, 2018/19) and  6 German DFB Cups (2012/13, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19). 2013 was her year ! She was so successful with Wolfsburg (UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga title and German Cup) and with the German National Team (UEFA Euro Championship) that she was crowned by the experts as THE WORLD’S BEST WOMAN PLAYMAKER 2013 by IFFHS ! Since 2012, Lena Goessling was always ranked in the World Playmaker’s Top 5 until 2016, she was with Nadine Kessler the heart of the World’s Best Club in the years 2012-2014 at VFL Wolfsburg.
